We’re Redefining Womanhood, And Here’s Why You Should Care

In a post-feminist era, many American women like myself are searching to define what modern womanhood looks like on a personal level. Nowadays, we grow up equal to boys. Gone are the days when the guidance counselor asked girls whether they wanted to be one of three things: nurses, secretaries, or teachers. We are encouraged to use our potential in whichever arena suits our talents and interests, including but not limited to those professions. Our voices are heard and welcomed. Our votes are counted. Our capabilities and contributions in the workplace, in academia, and in politics are recognized and respected. And while I’m thankful we do have so many choices, opportunities, and freedoms as American women, the statistical facts are that most women will marry, and many will raise biological or adoptive children.
